About Us
History of Our Business
"Serving Malad Valley for nearly 60 years!"
Gerald Thomas, an electrical contractor, went into business
for himself in 1950. His wife, Helen was his bookkeeper and
did whatever else was needed to run the business.
In 1956 the couple began selling Hotpoint home appliances
in the California Pacific Utilities building, now occupied by the
Senior Citizens Center in Malad.
They rented the William D. Clark building at 37 North Main in
1958 and used the south half to conduct business. Cecil
and Nola Harrison used the north half as a photo studio.
When the Harrisons moved to Tremonton, Utah, the
Thomas's took over the whole building, expanding to sell
furniture along with appliances.
In 1968, they purchased the R.T. Owens building at 45
North Main and with family and friends did a complete
remodeling job.
Today, Thomas Electric does electrical contracting, and
markets Whirlpool, Crosley, Roper, Estate, G.E., Hotpoint
and Amana home appliances. They also sell and install Dish
Network satellite systems. Sell Samsung, Sharp, Sony,
Toshiba and Panasonic electronics, Intermountain sofas,
Towne Square gliders, Bountiful Rest and Simmons Beauty
Rest mattresses.
All five of Gerald & Helen's sons: Randy, Brent, Kelly, J.D. &
Larry worked at the store as they grew up. Randy & Larry,
the eldest and youngest, have purchased the business from
their parents. Gerald passed away unexpectedly in 1996,
and Helen in 2006. In 2008 Larry and his wife Wendy
purchased the store's share from Randy who continues to
work at the store. All of Larry and Wendy's children have
worked at one time, or are now working at Thomas Electric &
Furniture.
Thomas Electric has survived nearly 60 years of business
thanks to the many wonderful customers who have
supported them.
